MVPW FIGHTINGHAWKS vs. TORREY PINES SOARING FALCONS

Murrieta Valley Pop Warner Division Two Fightinghawks (2-3) came from a bitter defeat last week against the Oceanside Pirates, but they were ready to bounce back. The 1st half MVPW kicked off to the Soaring Falcons who couldn’t do much with the ball until the 2nd quarter. The score at the half time was 7-6 with Zach Townsend’s 63 yard touchdown run as MV’s only points in the 1st half.

The 3rd quarter started with the Falcon’s kicking off to the Fightinghawks Donnie Murray who advanced it to the 42 yard line. In the same drive the Hawks decide to go for it on the 4th down and Zach Townsend takes it 51 yards for his second touchdown of the game. Hawks then go for 1 point conversion and Trevor Grieb rolls out on a play action pass and lobs the ball to a wide open Scott Woodward to make the score 14-6. Walker Keller comes up with a sack late in the 3rd quarter, which helps the Hawks make a crucial 4th down stop.

In the 4th quarter, Spencer Cale keeps the drive going with a 7 yard run, but MV is forced to punt on the next 4th down. Later in the 4th quarter the Hawks punt on a 4th and 36, the snap sails over the punter’s head and is recovered by the Falcons who take it to the end zone. The extra point is no good, leaving MV clinging to a 14-12 lead. With 23 seconds left in the game, Jake Jimenez makes the game saving tackle on the 4th and long. The Fightinghawks get the ball back and take a knee to bring home the win. Props to the offense and defense for an outstanding game!
